CAST ASIDE YOUR FEARS

THROUGH SEDATION DENTISTRY

AT REDMOND TOWN DENTAL

Sedation Dentistry

Here at Redmond Town Dental, Dr. Sayyah has employed the use of sedation dentistry. As the name implies, it is a technique used by a trained dentist to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for people receiving dental treatment. A benefit in using sedation is the effect that patients often feel that their procedures last only minutes when in reality the procedures performed may have taken several hours for completion. Additionally, most patients feel little if any discomfort following the procedure.

Dental phobia is very real and many people avoid visiting the dentist because of this fear. Without regular dental treatment the result is often severe neglect of oral health. Without regular maintenance teeth in can develop issues that can become so drastic that they are irreparable. For patients with anxiety, this can be a very serious and never ending situation. We want to help patients avoid the consequences and take charge of their oral health while feeling good through the process. Sedation dentistry addresses dental phobia by allowing people to obtain dental work while without being overcome by their fear. Additionally, sedation dentistry allows more complex cases to be performed in less appointments.

WHAT IS ORAL SEDATION?

Sedation is a technique that aims to alter your central nervous system (CNS) with medicine to produce an overall calm and relaxed (sedated) sensation. Sedative drugs (tranquillizers, depressants, sleeping pills, anxiolytics, etc.) are used to induce sedation and can be administered in a variety of ways.

Years ago, IV sedation was predominantly used to produce a sedated effect. Today, oral medications are available which are safer, produce less fear in people, and are easier for dentists to provide. There is also the benefit of a "no needles" approach with oral medications, avoiding the primary fear of many people. Sedation dentistry has broken the cycle of fear. Seeking the advice of a dentist experienced in sedation dentistry, rather than foregoing treatment because of fear and potential pain, gives people the opportunity to undergo critical procedures that they would have otherwise avoided.

During the office visit, the patient's vital signs are monitored to assure that they are safely and comfortably sedated through their dental treatment. Pillows and blankets are common protocol while you relax throughout your dental visit.

HERES'S HOW SLEEP DENTISTRY WORKS

It's really quite simple. By taking a small pill an hour before your appointment, you will already be relaxed by the time you arrive at Redmond Town Dental. Since you'll be too sedated to drive yourself, you must be accompanied to and from your appointment by a friend or family member that can also stay close for the hours following your treatment as the medication wears off. In the office, you will be seated in a comfortable chair with a warm blanket. Depending on the need, we may administer more of the prescribed sedation medication. Before starting your treatment, we will make sure you are completely comfortable.

You may be sedated for a short or long visit depending on your needed treatment. For example, if you have a lot of dental work that needs to be done, Sleep Dentistry allows us to do dental work that would normally require five or more visits to be accomplished in as little as one. This makes Sleep Dentistry an easy and effective way to provide patients who have dental-phobia with the dentistry they need to keep their teeth healthy and beautiful! Sleep Dentistry is very safe. One of our team members will be with you the whole time and you will be monitored by equipment similar to that used in a hospital for monitoring vital signs. Please feel free to give us a call for more information on Sleep Dentistry.

SEDATION DENTISTRY

Sleep Dentistry is not only for people that fear going to the dentist. Anybody can experience the benefits of Sleep Dentistry. Sedation allows patients to have more dental work done in a single appointment. Often treatment that would require five appointments or more can be performed in one single appointment. This means less interruptions to your daily life.

Nobody enjoys going to the dentist and what could make your next dental visit more pleasant than being able to sleep through it.

We offer different levels of sedation depending on your needs:
