Teeth Whitening FAQs

Why should I whiten my teeth?
Dull, stained or discolored teeth can be reason enough to hide your smile. By brightening your teeth, you can smile more freely and confidently. Your quality of life skyrockets, from your self-confidence to social interactions. A whiter, brighter smile can even give you the motivation you need to maintain good oral hygiene. In other words, teeth whitening can help you live happier and healthier.

Am I a candidate for teeth whitening?
You may be a suitable candidate for teeth whitening if you:

  • Are over 16 years of age
  • Have good dental health
  • Have tooth stains or discolored teeth caused by the consumption of certain foods and beverages or tobacco use
  • Have no open cavities, leaky fillings or deteriorating teeth

As with any dental treatment, Dr. Sayyah will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth to make sure you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

Why should I choose in-office teeth whitening over an at-home treatment?
With so many at-home teeth whitening options, we understand it may be tempting to go down that route. However, the benefits of in-office teeth whitening are unparalleled. At Dr. Sayyah’ dental practice, safety comes first. During the in-office treatment, a trained, certified dental professional is able to control the concentration of the whitening gel. This is especially important if you have sensitive teeth. A member of our trusted team will monitor the treatment at all times and can make other adjustments based on your needs.

In-office teeth whitening also provides faster results. Most at-home whitening gels, strips and toothpastes require repeated use and take several weeks or months to lighten your teeth just a few shades. The Zoom! teeth whitening treatment has been clinically proven to whiten teeth up to 8 shades in just one visit. Our team understands our patients want brighter, whiter teeth as soon as possible, and we are happy to help with a quick and convenient in-office treatment.

How does the Zoom! teeth whitening procedure work?
To begin the procedure, we will place a protective shield over your lips and gums to prevent the bleaching agent from touching them. We will then apply the whitening gel to the teeth and shine a special blue light on them for approximately 15 minutes. The whitening gel and blue light work together to break up stains and discoloration on the teeth. This process may be repeated two to three times, depending on how much whitening is needed. During this time, you are free to relax, watch TV or listen to music. Once the treatment is over, we will apply a fluoride paste-gel to your teeth to reduce sensitivity.

Does teeth whitening hurt?
Teeth whitening does not hurt, but some patients may experience tooth sensitivity immediately following their treatment. This should go away within one to three days after the procedure. If you have sensitive teeth, we can control the concentration of the bleaching agent in order to minimize discomfort. This ensures your experience with us is a comfortable one.

How long does the teeth whitening treatment take to complete?
The Zoom! teeth whitening in-office treatment takes approximately one hour to complete. However, be advised that a regular teeth cleaning session is recommended prior to the actual whitening treatment. This means you can expect to spend one to two hours in Dr. Sayyah’ dental office.

Is teeth whitening safe?
Teeth whitening is one of the most common dental treatments performed today. Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that the treatment is safe. Additionally, the Zoom! teeth whitening system is one of the most advanced and effective whitening treatments available. Millions of patients have achieved a brighter, whiter smile with Zoom! teeth whitening.

How long do results last?
Good oral health and habits are key in maintaining your new, dazzling smile. Regular brushing and flossing are important, as well as avoiding foods and beverages (e.g., coffee, red wine, tea) that could stain your teeth. As an added benefit to our in-office treatment, Dr. Sayyah will give you a free take-home Zoom! touch-up kit with custom-fitted whitening trays so you can maintain your whiter, brighter smile.
