MERCURY FREE and BPA FREE FILLINGS
All Natural Looking, Composite Fillings
At Redmond Town Dental we are proud to provide our patients with healthier alternatives for their dental restorations. We are pleased to have an amalgam free, metal free and mercury free practice. All patients are provided with a more bio-compatible composite material. Many people seek the aesthetic aspect of composite fillings and bondings, as they are are more attractive in a smile. However, using a bio-compatible composite material has far greater health advantages than just for the appearance. The material we use in our office for fillings and bondings is free of Bishphenol A (BPA) and metals.
Mercury Free Fillings
Dental amalgam fillings (also known as silver or metal fillings) have been a subject of concern due to the lingering studies that amalgam may leach mercury into the mouth, and could contribute to potential health issues. Bishphenol A, also known as BPA, is a chemical found in plastics and has been controversially linked to health illnesses. Some composite fillings made from dental resins contain BPA. Just as metal fillings have been known to leach mercury, studies have found oral enzymes in saliva cause a release of BPA from resin dental materials. When avoiding these chemicals, our focus is to provide healthier options for a more holistic dental experience.

Today patients want safe and healthy alternatives and are seeking metal free and BPA free alternatives, Dentists have options when choosing what products to use in their offices. BPA FREE resin materials are readily available and Dr. John Sayyah uses only BPA FREE materials.
Conserving a patient’s natural tooth and using safe materials has always been of the utmost importance to Dr. Sayyah. This is why he chooses to use only Bisphenol A (BPA) free and metal free fillings and bondings.
BPA free composites are a safe and wise alternative to amalgam fillings. Among the many reasons not to use metal materials for fillings, amalgam fillings are known to expand and contract with the changing temperature of your mouth (cold/hot drinks/foods). This expand and contract motion weakens the tooth wall which fractures the tooth allowing bacteria to enter through the fracture lines, resulting in the growth of dental decay and disease. Composite fillings are not affected by temperature changes during daily wear and tear. Another benefit of composite materials like white resin or even porcelain is that they actually bond to the tooth verses amalgam material that must be packed into your tooth by way of removing excess tooth structure to pack a large enough piece of amalgam into place. Additionally, composite fillings are not affected by changing temperatures allowing them to hold up under daily wear.
Composite resin or metal free fillings are also a more conservative option since Dr. John Sayyah removes less of the healthy, natural tooth for composite fillings/bondings verses amalgam. All of this results in a longer life span of the filling and better conservation of the natural tooth structure.
